Is this a familiar scene? Does your dog enjoy catching some rays now and then? Sun protection is just as important for your dog as it is for you. Practicing some type of skin cancer prevention is essential for hairless breeds, shaved pets and hairy dogs who enjoy sun bathing on their backs.
What will you do to protect your pet from sun induced tumors?
Veterinarians will agree that you don't need to slather your pet with sun screen, just key in on certain spots. For hairy dogs who like to soak up the sun laying on their backs, that exposed spot on their belly behind their hind legs needs to be protected. Supply ample shade and don't let those dogs who love to catch the rays bake for too long.
Never apply zinc oxide...it's toxic when licked off. Instead use any natural sunscreen for kids with an SPF of 15 or higher. The American Animal Hospital Associations cautions that only fragrance free and pet specific products should be used on animals.
The dogs nose and snout are prone to sun induced tumors. There is a balm that helps prevent and soothe doggie sunburn. It's called The Natural Dog Snout Soother...you can find it online and it also helps with many other ailments. http://www.naturaldogcompany.com/
If you aren't in to slathering you dogs sensitive areas with sunscreen, the best thing to do is limit sun exposure during the high peak hours of 10am to 4pm.
If your dog does sustain a sunburn, give him a soothing, healing bath in cool water and use a soothing pet shampoo.

The Beauty of Photo Text/Email Updates
One of the many “extras” that Play Time Pet Care offers our clients through our professional pet services is sending text or email updates with a photo of your four legged companion, at no additional charge. As professional pet sitters we believe that it helps our pet parent’s alleviate stress associated from leaving their pets at home. With the photo text or email our pet parents get to see that their beloved companion is being taken care of, not forgotten about and is happy. Just knowing our pets are happy helps us enjoy our much deserved vacations, or time away from home.
Just to give you an idea of an email you might receive when using the services of Play Time Pet Care, I have copied and pasted an actual email sent to a client on vacation for 8 days from one of our over night pet sitters, Kitty:
Morning Check In
Good Morning!
Hope you guys are having fun, everything is good here on the home front Thought I would share a couple of funny things I have learned from the girls.
1. Telling Vida you are going for a walk may result in her being so excited that you literally can’t catch her to put her collar on, lol. New strategy – pick her up before you say the word “walk.”
2. A miniature pincher harassing a pit bull into playing is funny no matter how many times you see it.
3. It does not matter if your alarm is set for 6:45, if you open your eyes at 5:15, you are fair game! LOL – you can’t resist those faces and all that excitement. They are better than any alarm clock I have ever had!
Talk to you soon,
