Dispelling Myths About Pet Sitting | Part I

This is part I of a series on dispelling myths about pet sitting.  Myth number 1:

"Hiring a pet sitter must be more expensive than boarding or kenneling, after all, they travel to my home to take care of my pet and provide individual attention.  I can't afford that."

Play Time Pet Care has done all the research for you and this is what we have found:

Kennel/Boarding

First...local kennels require a flea and tick preventative treatment upon arrival.  This is an additional cost and on average are $15 per pet.

The average price for boarding in the East valley starts at $26 for one dog.  If you are a multi pet household you can expect to pay the same for each additional pet.  Let's say you have 2 dogs and you want to board them for a long weekend.  The average price for boarding would be $82 per day.  This price does not include individual attention/ playtime or potty walks.

If you wanted to include 30 minutes of individual play time your daily price would go from $82 to $96.  Keep in mind that your pet will be alone for the majority of the time they are there.  Kennels typically do not have their facilities staffed 24/7.  Your pet is also living in a cement cell surrounded by unfamiliar sounds and smells.  Some kennels even charge you extra if you want your own pet's food to be used and you provide it.  So now, not only is your pet in an unfamiliar environment with strange sounds and smells, he can't even eat the food he is used to eating day in and day out.  Dogs tend to get upset bellies when their food is changed abruptly so there is a good chance Fido's belly will have butterflies from being in a strange place and not feel well because their food has been changed.

For a long weekend consisting of 3 nights, your total would be about $288 if you chose to kennel your 2 dogs.

Play Time Pet Care Pet Sitting

Play Time Pet Care does not require your pets to have a flea and tick preventative and because your pets will be staying in your home we do not require your pets to have their vaccines (although we highly recommend all pet owners to be responsible and adhere to local laws regarding vaccines and registration).

Our pet sitters provide individual attention to your pets during their visits ensuring each pet is happy healthy and loved.  We treat each pet as if it was our own.  Your pet eats their own food when and where they are used to eating it.  This means no upset bellies due to eating food they aren't used to.

Our visits start at $17.  This is a flat fee no matter how many pets you have.  You can chose multiple visits per day...our typical client choses to have 3 visits per day.  The cost for 3 visits per day (no matter how many pets you have) would be $51.  So, for your long weekend consisting of 3 nights and creating an individual plan for your pets your pet sitting cost would be $136 for 8 total visits.  Plus, at no extra charge, you get daily text/email updates with photos of your furry friends so you know your pets are being well taken care of and are happy.

We also provide overnight care.  Even if you wanted that extra attention for your pets it would cost less to hire a pet sitter.  Our overnight stays cost $70 per night.  We could add in a mid day visit for $10 and it would be like you never even left!  Overnights for this same weekend would only cost $230.

As you can see, hiring a pet sitter is NOT more expensive than boarding, your pets get the personal love and attention they deserve AND they get to stay in their own familiar environment so they can remain stress free.
