Pet Sitter Celebrates National Be Kind to Pets Week

May 1-7th is National Be Kind to Pets Week
National Be Kind to Pets week  is a special week to remind pet owners that their companions rely on us for everything. Pets need annual checkups, proper nutrition, dental care, exercise, fun and even a plan for when disaster strikes.

As a pet sitter I feel it is my responsibility to educate pet parents and potential pet parents on how to be a responsible pet owner.  In celebration of Be Kind to Pets week I am sharing the following 9 things you can do to be a responsible pet owner.

  1. Keep your pet healthy, with the help of your veterinarian
  2. Properly socialize your dog and teach him/her to be obedient and listen to you
  3. Always clean up after your pet
  4. Keep your cat indoors
  5. Keep your dog on a leash during walks and when outside your fenced yard (with leash-free dog parks being an exception to this rule)
  6. Microchip your pet and make sure the registration information stays up-to-date
  7. Spay or neuter your pet
  8. License your pet
  9. Budget for potential emergencies
Happy Be Kind to Pets Week!  How are you going to be kind to your pet today?
