May 1-7th is National Be Kind to Pets WeekNational Be Kind to Pets week is a special week to remind pet owners that their companions rely on us for everything. Pets need annual checkups, proper nutrition, dental care, exercise, fun and even a plan for when disaster strikes.
As a pet sitter I feel it is my responsibility to educate pet parents and potential pet parents on how to be a responsible pet owner. In celebration of Be Kind to Pets week I am sharing the following 9 things you can do to be a responsible pet owner.
- Keep your pet healthy, with the help of your veterinarian
- Properly socialize your dog and teach him/her to be obedient and listen to you
- Always clean up after your pet
- Keep your cat indoors
- Keep your dog on a leash during walks and when outside your fenced yard (with leash-free dog parks being an exception to this rule)
- Microchip your pet and make sure the registration information stays up-to-date
- Spay or neuter your pet
- License your pet
- Budget for potential emergencies
Happy Be Kind to Pets Week! How are you going to be kind to your pet today?
