Oh How I Love Thee

I saw a commercial the other day and was moved by the message behind it.  I am typically a person that tunes out during commercials, thinking of ways to increase business, traffic to my website, what I need to do the following day, etc.  So to not only pay attention to a commercial but to actually remember it the next day says a lot.

I don't remember what product the commercial was advertising (not surprising), but what I do remember is that it made me feel something...something special.  Essentially it was about a Dad who was having a baby (well, the mom was HAVING it, but you know what I mean) and he wanted to document his feelings and thoughts to his child throughout the child's life with email messages, photos and videos...eventually offering these "memories" to his child when his child comes of age, or gets married or some other significant point in time.  This got me thinking...I don't have children, so to speak, but I do have fur babies that I love unconditionally.  Unfortunately my dogs can't read (otherwise I would be a billionaire!) and they don't care to watch videos and don't understand what pictures are.  If I were to be able to express my feelings to the little guy in the picture above, with words, this is what I would say:

"I fell in love the moment I saw you.  You picked us to be your new mommy and daddy by cuddling with and seeking us out when we went to visit you.  I hated to leave, but it wasn't time to take you home yet.  I wanted to make sure you were welcomed by our other two dogs so I would bring towels when we came to visit so the others could get to know your scent before you came home.

I was so excited the day we got to take you home! I tried holding you in my lap for the long car ride home, but you got all squirmy, so I put you in your crate for the remainder of the trip.  You were so peaceful and comfortable in  your crate.  The cutest little puppy ever!

Watching  you grow and learn and become the free spirited little guy you are today was an experience I will never forget.  I learned so much from you...how to train you, how to help you learn how to be a great dog and how to share a couch and a bed with you.

Your little nuances keep me smiling all the time.  When I'm at home working you want to remain as close to me as you can.  Your sleepy little eyes trying to stay open so you know I'm still there, following me throughout the house as I move about, always in a spot where all you have to do is open  your eyes and there I am.  Finding a comfy spot on the couch right next to me or jumping in my lap as I work at my desk.  Which is a bit difficult but worth every minute.  Stealing toys from the other dogs and running away, asking, or shall I say, begging, them to chase you to get it back.  Then giving them a playful growl and staring them in the face as if to say "syke! not this time!" and running away again looking back to see if they play in to the chase.

Cuddling with you at night and feeling you close to me warms my heart and my soul.  You let me do what ever I want to you...picking you up like a rag doll to move you closer to me and hardly even opening your eyes.  Using my arm as your pillow, or better still, using my pillow as your own.  Your unconditional love and trust is amazing...something everyone should be able to experience.

I love you more than you will ever know...you have brought so much joy and happiness to our home and I am so glad you are a part of our lives.
With all the love in the world...

Mommy"
